Patrick Clarke is playing David (Darren's father) in Only Love Matters. He is a writer, director, producer and actor, his first feature film, Beyond the Pale an immigrant drama set in New York was a commercial success in Ireland, Australia and the US and won awards at the Houston and Arizona film festivals in 2000. Patrick's performance in Beyond the Pale led to roles in the TV mini-series The Magnificent Ambersons (2002) and the award-winning black comedy Stay Until Tomorrow (2004), which was developed through the Sundance Institute. In 2005 Patrick produced and directed the sports documentary The Extra Mile and the acclaimed music video One (2008) performed by Paul Brady and John Illsley (Dire Straits). In 2009 Patrick produced Trapped a.k.a. Anton a period thriller which was nominated for three Irish Academy Awards. Patrick's recent film roles include the lead in the drama Tonight with Roger Goodman (2018) and the blockbuster Hindi action thriller Aiyaary (2018) directed by Neeraj Pandey. Most recently Patrick produced and directed The New Theatre a documentary about Dublin’s most inspirational theatre venue, it was released on PBS Arts & Education platforms across the United States in 2019.
